

Jim studied art at the American Academy of Art at Chicago under Ugene Hall. He moved to Homer in 1984 and has become known as in the area for his art, music and carpentry skills. Jim paints at his home studio overlooking Kachemak Bay. His work can be seen at Picture Alaska art gallery and the mermaid Cafe. Buncak has taught workshops in life drawing and landscape painting to improve his own skills and pass on the techniques and ideas learned from his teacher and the great painters of the past.
