Mariska Wright
Born and raised on a small island in the Netherlands, I moved to the United States when I was 18 years young.      In 1999 a lifelong dream came true when I made the big move to Alaska.

The last 20 years of my life have been dedicated to animal welfare. Being able to escape into my doll world helps me forget the often stressful issues of working in an animal shelter and I have come to appreciate what others throw away. I carry this through my work as a doll artist. Except for the clay I use, all my dolls are made of recycled materials, including the fur and hair. I hand sculpt all my dolls' faces and hands never using molds. All my dolls are one of a kind.

Living in Alaska has been a great inspiration for my dolls. Most of my ideas simply come from observing the people around me and by collecting my materials. I am fortunate to be able to work from my studio at home. However, sharing our home with 16 rescue dogs and other pets, can be very challenging and at the same time rewarding.
