DIANNE WIDOM says that she loves painting people more than anything else. Widom portrays her subjects in her unique style that combines a flat hard-edge technique with intricate patterns and finely blended, realistic skin tones. For over 12 years Widom lived in Native villages and small towns in Alaska sketching and painting the Native people she met in these communities. In addition to watercolor and acrylics, Widom will use the ink from an octopus that has an intense sepia color to render her subjects in tones reminiscent of early photographs.
